Empowering and Equipping
Parents to Help
Their Children

As a parent or caregiver, you are in a unique position to play a significant role in helping your children form a healthy attitude toward eating—and the feelings that go along with it. Since our relationship with food reflects how we feel about ourselves, and how we think others perceive us, addressing the underlying emotions is critical to setting children up for success.

In our family sessions, we use an EFFT (Emotion-Focused Family Therapy) approach to empower parents and equip them with the tools to become their child’s recovery coach and emotion coach. With this training, parents learn to offer the support necessary to help kids process and “digest” big feelings, so that they do not need to act out in self- or other-harming ways.

Abundant research shows that children who are supported in these ways function much better in several areas, including physical health, mental health, academic performance and social skills. They are also more likely to be resilient and independent when facing life’s challenges.
